Toco Publications

Toco were certainly the most successful of the post-war British publishers of glamour photo magazines. Their three most popular titles, Beautiful Britons, Spick and Span, ran for three decades between the mid-1950's to the mid-1970's.

After an initial few issues featuring glamourous celebrities etc they quickly adopted a winning formula with photo-sets of mostly part-time models with a "girl-next-door" appeal who posed in lingerie, stockings and suspenders etc in a cheerful and certainly unsalacious manner.  With the coming of freely available explicit material in the early 1970's Toco carried on for a few more years with their traditional modest style, but presumably could not compete with the crudely explicit magazines then available from the top shelves of every newsagent.

It is, of course, their friendly innocent charm of yesteryear which appeals today to the more discerning of glamour collectors.  There may be an occasional bare boob or bottom but never any explicit nudity.

These pocket-size magazines are 7 x 4.5 inches and around 52 pages per issue.
